What we do
Want a perfect world?
Not possible!
Want to make a difference
where you are?
Now that’s possible!
We believe a lack of love is at the root of many of the degeneration of our society. Hate, injustice, intolerance, crime, indifference, racism (to name a few), leave our community zapped of hope, energy, and healthy socialization. We can help to bring change where we are right now.
Love is selfless and unconditional. And it is to be expressed with no regard to color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, etc. At iLove Now, we are intentional about bringing love to communities. The smallest of gestures and the intentionality of our kind acts is making a difference. We want to do more, but for now we are perfecting change through our programs and activities.
Community Events
Our volunteers are thrilled to work in communities that may be a challenge for others but an opportunity for greatness for us. We coined the phrase “At-Hope” persons (instead of at-risk) so that even how we view and interact with them is from a place of honor and dignity.
Here are some of our community programs:
-
For the past eight years, each fall, iLove Now, with our partners, has provided over 1200 tote bags of food and hygiene products at our annual “Lunch in The Park for The Homeless” event in downtown and Southeast Washington, DC. It's one of our favorite events, allowing us to talk with and pray for residents and transient persons in the area.
Although they all welcomed our tote bags of goodies, it never fails that many of them were blessed with our just stopping by to listen and chat with them. Last September 2023, one lady forwent hopping onto her bus when it stopped to continue listening and sharing with two of our volunteers.
When organizers and volunteers met to share and debrief, the prevailing responses were, “This was so enriching...” “I needed this…” “Let me know when the next one is.”
-
We conduct prayer walks in at-risk neighborhoods in Southeast Washington, DC, to pray for an end to gun violence, drugs, gang warfare, broken households, etc. We also engage residents to ascertain their concerns and challenges, pray with many of them, and engage the young people in friendly conversations while pushing hope.
With the help of our community partners, we hope to have a monthly presence in the area of Peace Park, corner of Martin Luther King Blvd & Malcolm X Avenue, SE Wash., DC, which we adopted six years ago.
-
Through our Samaritan program with Easel Church, we have helped to serve underprivileged families in the Maryland & DC areas with food, clothes, coats and toys during the holiday seasons.
-
With the pandemic came a rapid decline in funding to continue with other programs we began and others we planned to
Implement such as:
“My Best Self” chat & chew makeover sessions at community women’s groups and transitional Homes
Men’s Community Huddle
Mid-Year School Supplies Giveaway
First Responders Appreciation Brunch
Rhythm, Chat, & Chew with community musicians and artists
Community Prayer Walks
…And other programs.
We are amping up our efforts to implement these programs to bring strength and hope to the at-hope communities in the DMV area. Your giving will help us get there.
